Condoleezza Rice is a truly inspiring human, who took up golf by accident at the age of 50. A while ago, she shared 7 great reasons why you may want to consider taking up golf.
In life keep on challenging yourself or you wither : No matter if it’s golf, or any other challenge - it’s exhilarating to try something new. If you don’t have new challenges and targets to achieve then quite often you’ll simply wither, and go along aimlessly - bored with life.
Enjoy working at it, enjoy practicing and trying to get better : Make it a whole new routine. Plan your practice times, playing times and work out how to measure if you are getting better. We all love the satisfaction of improvement. Set yourself goals and try to reach them one step at a time
- It’s never too late to take up golf : As with most things, the earlier you start the better. But with golf, it's never too late. All you need to do is find a pro that you like (ask some friends) and play wherever & whenever you can.
- The beautiful thing about golf is that you can play it forever : Almost!
It’s a game of honour : This is important. If you cheat you are only cheating yourself. There are certain rules and etiquette which people adhere to and enjoy. Whilst some are changing to keep up with modern life, they nevertheless still underly the game itself.
You meet terrific people from lots of different countries : Some of life's best and long lasting relationships are formed on the golf course and in the clubhouse. You can meet people from anywhere and everywhere.
It’s a uniter : Golf is the common denominator which unites everyone across all cultures and helps to bridge differences - because everyone knows what its like. All golfers were beginners at one point in time. So they know how hard the game is and what’s involved. This fact helps people to bridge any differences they have with others.
