The last time The Open Championship (British Open) was held at Royal Troon, American Todd Hamilton outlasted Ernie Els in a playoff to hoist the Claret Jug in 2004. It was one of just two career PGA TOUR wins for Hamilton, who entered that week ranked 56th in the world. It's a reminder that, even at major championships where the courses are difficult, the fields are deep with stars and the pressure is at an all-time high, sleepers and lesser-known players can rise to the top of the leaderboard.
Founded in 1878, Royal Troon is renowned as one of the greatest links courses and will host the 145th Open in 2016 for the 9th time. Just over a week ago, the club voted overwhelmingly to admit female members during a special general meeting.
Who will win the Claret Jug in 2016 - with so many in form golfers from Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Jason Day, Rory McIlroy it's going to be tough to choose a winner - and let's not forget last years winner Zach Johnson or an in form Alex Noren.
